Tom Brady Just Revealed He’s Officially Retiring After Not Making it to the Super Bowl This Year
Ever since the Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s loss at the 2022 NFL Playoffs, football fans around the country have been asking the same question of the team’s veteran quarterback: is Tom Brady retiring?
Brady’s second season with the Bucs came to an abrupt end on January 23, 2022, after the team’s 30-27 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The star quarterback was on the verge of victory during the Sunday divisional playoff game, rallying his team from a 27-3 deficit to tie the game in the final minute. But with moments to spare, the Rams ultimately defeated the Bucs with a 30-yard field goal by Matt Gay completed as time expired on the game. With this loss, the Bucs and Brady lost their bid to Super Bowl LVI just one year after Brady led his team to win the championship at Super Bowl LV. And now, fans want to know if Brady is thinking of throwing in the towel for good.
Former Bucs player Keyshawn Johnson thinks that the possibility of retirement makes some sense for Brady, who would start another season at the age of 45 if he chose not to step away. “You’ve won seven (Super Bowls) and you’ve played in 10,” Johnson said on ESPN’s Keyshawn, JWill & Max Show. “You’ve accomplished every hardware you could think of and imaginable in terms of professional sports.” The former NFL wide receiver also noted that Brady may consider retirement to spend more time with his family. The quarterback is married to model Gisele Bündchen and has three kids: his son Benjamin and daughter Vivien, who he welcomed with Bündchen in 2009 and 2012 respectively, and his eldest son Jack, born in 2007, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan.
“There’s also something to be said for family, and time with your family. He has kids. They’re getting older,” Johnson added. “I’m sure his son wants to play football or wants to play quarterback or something along those lines, and duplicate that success or try to duplicate the success that his dad had. Living that dream, you want to be there for that.”

So, is Tom Brady retiring? Yes. After after 22 seasons and seven championships, Brady has officially announced his retirement. The veteran quarterback shared the news in an Instagram post on February 1, 2022. He shared a photo of himself on the field, along with the following statement:
“I have always believed the sport of football is an “all-in” proposition – if a 100% competitive commitment isn’t there, you won’t succeed, and success is what I love so much about our game,” Brady’s statement began. “There is a physical, mental, and emotional challenge EVERY single day that has allowed me to maximize my highest potential. And I have tried my very best these past 22 years. There are no shortcuts to success on the field or in life.”
He continued, “This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore. I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention. I’ve done a lot of reflecting the past week and have asked myself difficult questions. And I am so proud of what we have achieved. My teammates, coaches, fellow competitors, and fans deserve 100% of me, but right now, it’s best I leave the field of play to the next generation of dedicated and committed athletes.”

The Bucs star went on to share a long list of thank you’s, including to his fans and his family, before reflecting on his legendary career. “My playing career has been such a thrilling ride, and far beyond my imagination, and full of ups and downs. When you’re in it every day, you really don’t think about any kind of ending,” he wrote. “As I sit here now, however, I think of all the great players and coaches I was privileged to play with and against the competition was fierce and deep, JUST HOW WE LIKE IT. But the friendships and relationships are just as fierce and deep. I will remember and cherish these memories and re-visit them often. I feel like the luckiest person in the world.”
Brady’s confirmation comes after weeks of speculation and reports claiming that he was planning to retire following the Buccaneer’s last-minute loss to the Rams at the NFL divisional playoff on January 23, 2022. When asked after the game whether he was thinking of retirement, the quarterback was hesitant to share any plans for the future. “Truthfully guys, I’m thinking about this game,” Brady said, per ESPN. “I’m not thinking about anything past five minutes from now.” He went on to note, “I haven’t put a lot of thought into [retirement], so you know, we will just take it day by day and kind of see where we are at.”
Brady—who has one year left on his contract with the Bucs—told reporters that he wasn’t thinking of the divisional playoff game as his last. “I was thinking about winning,” he explained at the time. “That’s kind of my mentality—always to go out there and try to win. Give my teammates the best chance to win.”

Speaking of his team’s loss, Brady admitted that was simply a “reality” that every athlete must deal with at one point in their career—and for Brady, this loss marked just the fourth time he’s ever lost in the divisional round during his 20-plus year career. “Every team is really qualified when you get to the final eight, then the final four, then the final two and it doesn’t feel good to lose any one of those games, and I have lost each of those stages,” he said. “So at the end, there is only one team that is going to be happy. It feels good to move on when you move on, and obviously when you don’t, whether it was last week or this week or next week, the week after, two weeks after that—if you are a loser in that game, it all sucks to lose in the end.”

Prior to announcing his retirement in February 2022, Brady opened up about the subject in the past. During a July 2021 interview with SiriusXM Town Hall, the quarterback hinted that he had plans to play football until he was at least 45 years old—but his family weighed heavily on his mind when it came to this decision. “Things change as you get older, and there’s a lot of different responsibilities I have in my life,” he said at the time. “My kids and my family is certainly very important, and they made a lot of sacrifice over a long period of time to watch me play. So, you know, I owe it to them, too.”
Brady echoed these plans in his official retirement announcement: “To my wife, Gisele, and my children Jack, Benny and, Vivi. You are my inspiration. Our family is my greatest achievement,” he gushed. “I always came off the field and home to the most loving and supportive wife who has done EVERYTHING for our family to allow me to focus on my career. Her selflessness allowed me to reach new heights professionally, and I am beyond words what you mean to me and our family. Te amo amor da minha vida.”

House of Gucci, which premiered in November 2021, follows the story of Patrizia Reggiani; an Italian woman who soon marries her way into the illustrious Gucci family. Patrizia, played by Lady Gaga, falls in love with and marries Maurizio Gucci, heir to the Gucci brand and grandson to House of Gucci founder, Guccio Gucci. But when they first meet, Maurizio, played by Adam Driver, wants little to do with the family business. His father Rodolfo (Jeremy Irons) and his uncle Aldo (Al Pacino) are the ones who reign. Patrizia won’t stand for it—even if it costs her own marriage to Maurizio or someone’s life, for that matter.
Following the release of the film, which was based on the 2001 book, The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden, actors Lady Gaga and Driver have continued to receive glowing praise for their performances. Nevertheless, the film was a heavy one for Gaga. “What I always wanted was to portray her in the way that I believed, which is that she has true and real regret at this point in her life,” Gaga told Deadline of Reggiani, who was charged with her husband’s murder in real life. “In order to figure out why she did it, I had to track it all the way through the lens of survival. Survival as a woman, I think, is a very complex narrative, and I tried to weave the story of many through her.”
“People do love to watch women fall apart. But they love to watch women fall apart on film and in television,” Gaga adds. “When women fall apart in real life and are vibrant and passionate, we’re called crazy. We’re called bitches. We’re told we’re too much. I’ve been called ‘spicy’ before. I really disliked that, spicy. It’s like, what is the flavor of a woman? Patrizia’s flavor was her DNA and it was a product of her upbringing. It was also the product of being incessantly put down by this system of men.”
Of course, Reggiani’s story was a complicated one—and even Gaga was ready to say goodbye once the time came. “On the last day of filming, I was on the balcony of my apartment in Rome, and I was blasting Dean Martin singing “Mambo Italiano,” and I had a cigarette hanging out of my mouth,” she told W Magazine in December 2021. “I was Patrizia. But I knew I had to say goodbye to her: Large swarms of flies kept following me around, and I truly began to believe that she had sent them. I was ready to let her go.”

According to Variety, House of Gucci will be available to own online on February 1, 2022, then on DVD and on-demand on February 22, 2022. The digital release package will include exclusive bonus content, such as behind the scenes features like “The Lady of the House,” which documents Gaga’s transformation into her role, and another featurette titled “Styling House of Gucci,” which takes viewers through the process of creating the Gucci family’s wardrobe.

Audiences have a few retailers they can choose from when it comes to watching House of Gucci online. Amazon users may prefer to purchase House of Gucci directly from the Prime Video hub, where you can watch the film on your computer or on the Amazon Prime Video app on your mobile device and Smart TV. Roku TV users, on the other hand, may find it easier to purchase House of Gucci directly from Vudu on their official Roku Movie Store landing page on their television. Where will House of Gucci be released?
House of Gucci is expected to stream on Paramount+ once it hits streaming services. Its arrival on the streaming platform is thanks to a pact between the film’s studio, Epix, and Paramount Pictures, according to Variety.
When can I stream House of Gucci?
While there are no official announcements on when House of Gucci will be ready to stream, we do know that it’s headed to Paramount+ in the near future. But how soon? Well, based on previous theatrical release timelines, we’d wager to say that House of Gucci will likely appear on the streaming service roughly 90 days after its theatrical debut. Given that the film first premiered in November 2021, it’s possible that House of Gucci will land on streaming services by March 2022—but of course, we’ll have to wait and see. Until then, House of Gucci is still playing in cinemas and is available to order digitally on Amazon.

This Dating Card Game Helped Me Land A Boyfriend, No Joke

Not to flex, but I’d say I’m pretty damn good at first dates. After years on the frontlines of the battlefield that is New York City’s dating scene, I’ve definitely got the first few dates down to a science—to the point where, even if I decide my date isn’t a great match, I still end up having a ball. Now that I’m all boo’d up, it’s finally time to pass on my biggest advice, most of which is about dating card games.
Before you call me boring, know that I am, in fact, the opposite of boring. There! Now that we’ve cleared the air, let me wax poetic about why I love dating card games so much. During a first date, I always make sure to mention my go-to card game, We’re Not Really Strangers, as one of my favorite things.
What’s it about, my dates always ask. I tell them it’s a card game chock full of hard-hitting questions designed to incite super deep convo—and that it’s really, really fun to play while drinking with someone you don’t know that well.

Reader, every damn date then asks me to bring the cards on our next date. Sometimes, they’ve even relocated our date to a bar closer to my apartment so that I can go grab the game and bring it down! From there, playing the game allows us to skip the small talk and get right down to some genuinely interesting and insightful conversations. America Ferrera on ‘Failing’ to Live Up to the Beauty Standard & Becoming a CoverGirl

Major congrats are in order for quadruple threat America Ferrera. She’s a CoverGirl! Ferrera is kicking off her partnership as the face of Clean Fresh Skincare. And she’s pretty excited. “It’s so thrilling and kind of like a surreal dream to be invited into the CoverGirl family and to say ‘I’m a CoverGirl’, which is not something that I would have ever imagined growing up I’d be able to say,” she tells STYLECASTER over Zoom.
“I grew up not necessarily seeing examples of beauty standards that included a lot of who I was and I think that it’s a really momentous thing that the narrative around beauty is beginning to shift toward including more and more kinds of people,” she continues. “And also because of that, we’re coming to understand beauty as universal and beauty as about what makes us unique and what empowers us and loving ourselves. I love being a part of this conversation and it does make me giggle to say, ‘I’m a CoverGirl.'”

In these roles, we were told — in so many words — that Ferrera is different, different than the beauty standard of the early 2000s when Paris Hilton and Nicole Ricci were “It girls.” Ferrera felt it, too. That’s why becoming a CoverGirl is such a big deal.
“If I had gone back and told little America that she was going to be a CoverGirl, I would have said, ‘Oh, I found a way to become a blonde, skinny white girl?'” she says, laughing. “‘Actually, you stayed exactly who you are and the conversation around beauty evolved and shifted and there’s space for you in that conversation.’ That is an incredible message for all of us. You don’t even have to be young. We all need to expand our ideas of our beauty standards.”

And it wasn’t for lack of trying. Ferrera did everything she could to fit in, wearing the designer gowns, getting professional hair and makeup and smiling on the red carpet. But it didn’t work. As viewers, we may have been thinking how gorgeous she looked (I know I did!) but she didn’t feel the part.
“From the beginning of my career, I was held up as this role model for breaking the beauty standards but I was still a 17-year-old child figuring it out for myself,” she says. “I didn’t know I was beautiful. All I knew was I was failing an expectation.” Seeing others embrace their unique beauty, helped her on her own journey. “Body image-wise, gender spectrum-wise, I feel like there are so many more inspiring examples of all of us embracing our own uniqueness saying, ‘this is beautiful,'” she says. “
As a mom of two, she’s having to think about teaching her own kids to love themselves. Luckily, she’s been through it herself. “I’ve been on my own personal lifelong journey with beauty just being a young woman in this culture absorbing really unrealistic beauty standards that had nothing to do with who I was in the world,” she says. “Of course, finding my place within that, I’ve certainly done my fair share of trying to become things that I’m not. I’m happy to say, I’m very much on the other side of that and feeling like I want to embrace my beauty and feel empowered by it and do it for me and have fun with it, let it be a tool for my own self-expression.”
That self-expression is about having fun with beauty, not feeling like it’s this opressive expectation. For Ferrera, part of that is prioritizing skincare. Because she has to wear so much makeup for work, on camera and on red carpets, she likes to feel her most natural self just with hydrating, glowing skin. “I can throw on mascara and a tinted lip and I can look fresh and like myself,” she says.

Ferrera is teaching her kids to feel beautiful in their skin, too. “I want my daughter and my son to have a relationship to their own beauty that’s expressive and an understanding beauty as more just what you see but what’s coming through you,” she says. “And if you want to have green hair and blonde streaks and glitter, go for it! But do it because it’s fun and not because it’s an expectation you’re trying to meet.”
She’s showing her daughter how gorgeous her natural hair is, too. “My daughter has really curly hair and I had really curly hair but I was made to not like my curly hair, that my hair had to be straight to be presentable,” she says.”I agonized over every time I had to do anything my hair had to get blown out and I didn’t know how to do it and it wasn’t enough to show up as me. I was never taught to care for the authentic hair I had but to change it and there’s so much anxiety in that.”

Ferrera is thankful she already went through her own journey towards self-acceptance, so she can support her kids, whoeever they become. She adds: “The journey to true beauty is the journey to loving yourself exactly as you are and using all the fun stuff about beauty and fashion and makeup to express that.” Amen.
