When it comes to curating your look for summer 2021, it’s probably best to take advice from someone who has mastered the art of warm-weather fashion, right? Hailey Elefante, the influencer behind @TheSaltyBlonde on Instagram, is that person. To prove her sartorial prowess, Elefante is back with a second collaboration with Billabong following her best-selling first drop back in March. We caught up with The Salty Blonde herself to get all the juicy details about her new collab with the brand, including the pieces she lives in most and the trends she loves for summer
First things first—how did she come up with such dreamy pieces? “The inspiration behind this collection came from the amazing style and laid back vibes of Southern California in the ’70s, my all-time favorite decade,” Elefante tells STYLECASTER. “We chose warmer tones, retro florals and had fun with different textures this time around and I’m SO happy with how everything came out.”
This second drop, available now, consists of bikinis and one-pieces—all made from recycled knits—alongside other laid-back pieces like breezy matching sets and beach-ready dresses. As for the overall aesthetic, it’s basically summer encapsulated, from sun-dipped wallpaper-inspired floral patterns to sun-baked bronze hues and even a refreshing matcha green.
Deciding to work with Billabong on a collection of swimwear and apparel was a “no-brainer” for Elefante, who grew up in upstate New York before jetting off to Hawaii seven years ago. She now splits her time between Orange County, California and Hawaii. Basically, she’s living the dream—and Billabong is a major part of her dreamy style. “They are so iconic and I have been wearing them ever since I can remember,” she says about the brand.
As for her favorite pieces from the new collection, Elefante told me that she’s “obsessed” with the Back Then Underwire Top and matching Maui Bottoms because of their retro appeal. “The Beach Crew Tee is also the perfect vintage wash and fabric that you might even think it’s truly from the ’70s,” she adds.
Honestly, it makes sense that Elefante’s collection includes lived-in pieces like vintage-inspired tees in addition to swimsuits: The pandemic impacted all of our daily wardrobes, of course, but as someone who has always felt that comfort and style should go hand in hand, Elefante says that her day-to-day style hasn’t really changed.
“While it’s now acceptable to wear sweats in public, I think I can speak for most when I say I am beyond ready to shed some layers this summer and wear cute outfits that make me feel confident again, while still staying comfortable, of course,” she says. And of course, I couldn’t agree more.
